Other Plastic Sheet Material

Polypropelene
Polypropylene possesses excellent resistance to organic solvents, degreasing agents and electrolytic attack. It has a lower impact strength, but irs working temperature and tensile strength are superior to low or high density polyethelene. It is light in weight, resistant to staining, and has a low moisture absorption rate.

Key Properties
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Rigid
  • Lightweight
  • Resists stress cracking
  • Easily fabricated
  • Low moisture absorption
  • Good impact resistance
  • Good electrical properties
Typical Applications
  • Structural tanks & covers
  • Plating barrels & tanks
  • Prosthetic devices
  • Ducts & hoods
  • Valve & pump components
  • Vacuum formed parts

Low Density Polyethelene (LDPE)
An extruded material offering good corrosion resistance properties and low moisture permeability. It can be used in applications where corrosion resistance is a factor, but stiffness, high temperature and structural strength are not. It can be easily fabricated, vacuum formed and welded.

Key Properties
  • Lightweight
  • Good impact resistance
  • Extremely flexible
  • Easily cleaned
 Typical Applications
  • Prosthetic devices
  • Vacuum formed parts
  • Fabricated parts

High Density Polyethelene (HDPE)
High Density polyethelene offers superior corrosion resistance, a higher working temperature range, and higher tensile strength.

Key Properties
  • Excellent impact resistance
  • Lightweight
  • Low moisture absorption
  • High tensile strength
  • Non-toxic
  • Non-staining
Typical Applications
  • Fabricated and machined parts
  • Tanks Prosthetic devices
  • Corrosion resistant wall coverings
  • Vacuum formed parts
  • Trays & cutting boards for food industry

Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethelene (UHMW)
Performs well under the most rigorous conditions of wear and environment because of its unique combination of physical and mechanical properties. Not only does it have the highest known impact strength of any thermoplastic currently available but it also offers high resistance to abrasion, demonstrating only negligible weight loss when subjected to abrasion against copper, brass or steel. In addition to these properties, a very low coefficient of friction and extremely low moisture absorption make UHMW an extraordinary material for industrial wear, impact and sliding applications. Particularly effective were no lubrication is available or during operation in the presence of water, UHMW is non-toxic, odorless, tasteless and FDA approved for direct contact in meat and poultry processing. UHMW can be easily sawed, milled, turned, planed, drilled or punched on standard wood working equipment. UHMW offers diversity of usage in touch applications in a wide range of industries.

Typical Applications
Gears, Bearings, Bushings, Sprockets, Cams, Conveyer parts, Wear surfaces, Impact surfaces, Liners, Feed screws.

High Impact Styrene, an alloy of styrene and butadiene, is an outstanding material for vacuum forming and screen printing point of purchase displays. High Impact styrene sheet can be used in lighting panels, advertising displays, drip pans, electronic components and model making. High Impact styrene rod and slab is supplied in a natural translucent white color. It is annealed and has excellent resistance to most mineral oils, organic acids, alkalis, salts and alchohols. It has excellent dimensional stability, is easily machined and FDA compliant. Its high impact resistance, good electrical properties, and relatively light weight make it suitable for many unique applications. High Impact styrene is generally supplied with a matte finish and opaque white color.

Key Properties
    • Excellent resistance to most mineral oils, organic acids, alkalies, salts and alcohol's
    • Relatively lightweight
    • Good electrical properties
    • Excellent dimensional stability
    • High impact resistance
    • Low water absorption
    • FDA approved - Tasteless - Odorless
    • Excellent machinability
    • Easy fabrication

ABS offers excellent chemical resistance, toughness and abrasion resistance. ABS also exhibits excellent creep resistance, good electrical properties and is resistant to inorganic salts, alkaies and many acids.

Key Properties
  • High tensile strength
  • Good overall practical toughness
  • Good resistance to chlorine
  • Good mechanical properties
  • Good stain resistance
Typical Applications
  • Telephone handsets
  • Business machine housing and parts
  • Luggage
  • Toys
  • Chrome-plated
  • ABS used in plumbing and automotive parts

PETG is a thermoplastic copolyester sheet material. It features good clarity and impact strength. PETG offers resistance to frontal and drop ball impacts comparable to polycarbonate. Furthermore, it is far less costly and typically can be formed without the added expense of pre-drying. It has more impact than acrylic, which often allows use of thinner gauges. PETG has FDA approval for food contact applications but it is not recommended for outdoor or high temperature applications.

Key Properties
  • High impact resistance
  • FDA approved
  • Chemical resistance
Typical Applications
  • Interior signs and sign covers
  • Prosthetic devices
  • Graphic arts
  • Store fixtures & displays
  • Tote trays & covers
  • Medical storage & packaging
  • Food handling trays
  • Clear novelty items
